Timber with irregular grain, fine texture and oily gloss. The heart wood is of dark brown colour, sometimes with darker longitudinal striping. Astronium is among the heaviest and most durable timbers of the world. Another specific feature is the excellent durability in exterior uses.
Urunday has an better rating for exterior and under water applications to Tabebuia and Caesalpinia.
