FORESTRY IN ARGENTINA

| Deutsch | Español |

Argentinien is with an area of 2,78 mio. squarekilometers the second largest land of South-America. During the last 100 years Argentinas forest resources have been reduced from 100 to 33 mio hectares.

Nearly 1 mio hectares have been reforested with fast growing species (pine, eucalypt). Pristine forests are situated mainly in the North of Argentina:

Sub-tropical forests in North-east Argentina ........................................................ 1.5 mio ha.
Sub-tropical forests in North-west Argentina (Yunga) ........................................ 3.7 mio ha.
Chaco forests (dry region in the North of the country) ...................................... 23.4 mio ha.
Chaparal ..................................................................................................................... 2.7 mio ha.
Beech forests in the South ( Patagonia ) .............................................................. 2.0 mio ha.

The variety of tree species in the Argentine forest ecosystems is overwhelming. The timber is characterised by excellent technical qualities and a beautiful impression. The timber species of the Chaco are extraordinary durable, whilst the Yungas forests provide precious, decorative timber species like e.g. nut-tree.
